Style

Well, style is a question of taste when its concerning clothes or music. But what a great and stylish track should look like has a common point of view:

1. It should have a startup screen

The startup screen for a track is stored in your 'Re-Volt/gfx' folder and must have the same name as the track (f.e. 'mytrack.bmp'). It must be a Bitmap and 256x256 in size. This is a lot of place to play with! If you have no idea of a special startup screen, just put a screenshot of an in-game-scene in here. Anyway, a track starts with this picture and so you should put some effort into it!

2. It should be seamless

When you put up your own textures, always make sure that tiles which will stick together have a seamless texture. The KPT filters for Photoshop provide a "seamless welder", which tries to make a selection seamless. But you will most likely see that you'll have to do it by hand. Check the "Effects" section for further info.

3. The colors should fit

I shrinked a whole texture set of me (see screen) to show what I mean with that. Even if a single texture itself on 'b.bmp' looks great, it might happen that it doesn't fit another one on 'd.bmp'. Make sure to always compare the different bmp's in order to find a common mood for your artwork. And remember to alter the fog color in the .inf file so that it fits your track.

If you still don't know what I mean, try texturing an own track with a texture set from an original track (you'll have to try around a bit until the graphics fit) and be stunned of how amazing it will look like!

4. Don't mess around

... with things you think will enhance your track. Playing around with a .fob file that features a sprinkler doesn't make a bad track better and throwing around different textures from almost every original Acclaim track will only make people wonder what they're actually driving through. Play it safe and only use things that fit the overall mood and theme of your track.
