The .zip file

The neverseen beauty of your track doesn't stop when you put the finishing touch on it :) In fact you'll need to put up a cool zipfile in order to get as many people play your puppy as possible.

First of all: I'm currently working with WinZip (Version 6.3). Therefor all following steps are described for this tool only. Don't email me asking how to do it with other zippers, I do not know!

Ok, your track is done, you're quite satisfied and can't wait to release it to the community. First of all make sure you have the necessary files:

  • The track folder with all bmp's in it
  • A readme file with an install description
  • The startup screen for your track (you'll find a 'howto' under "Style")
  • A screenshot (if you want to release it at RHQ), doesn't have to be included in the zipfile itself

Fine, now for the packing:

You need to create a folder named as your track (f.e. Akira). Inside this folder you create two more with the names "levels" and "gfx". Inside the "gfx" folder you place a copy of your startup screen named as the track (akira.bmp). Inside the "levels" folder you place a copy of your track folder (not only the files but the whole folder!).

Your first folder should look like this now:

All in one

Now rightclick on the folder and say "add to akira.zip":

Packing your puppy

That's all! When you now doubleclick the zipfile it should have all the right install paths, just like this:

The best way to zip your track!

Include an install description in your readme which should say something like "Install all files into your Re-Volt root directory and they will automatically be placed in the right folders" and make sure that the readme is included in the "levels/akira" folder of your zipfile.

Note: if you're going to release your track on RHQ, you do not need to include the screenshot of it in your zipfile, just attach it to the email you're sending to Tony. Otherwise everyone will have to download your screenshot (and will most likely never see it). But do remember to include the startup screen in your zip!
